While basic math and science are often objective in what they describe, those two things might as well be the only objective facts in our universe. Everything else is subjective: it depends on the person taking everything in.
Perhaps the most subjective emotion experienced is humor. Everyone has their own sense of humor, and what I may find funny isn't necessarily going to make someone else laugh. I think one of the greatest examples might be with The Office. A lot of my friends say that this is one of the greatest and funniest shows they have ever watched, but personally, I don't get the hype. Do some episodes have interesting premises? Yeah, they do. But do I find it funny? Only sometimes. Most of the humor in that show is kind of hit or miss, at least in my opinion.
Anyways, back to what I wanted to write about for today's blog. My brother probably has the most unique sense of humor out of anyone I know. You can never understand why exactly he finds something to be funny, but you're forced to laugh along because it's funny and cute watching him laugh.
A few Fridays ago, my brother and my mom were settled in the recliner, going over different Tamil words before his Tamil class the next day. Initially, it felt like just an ordinary study session, with my mom quizzing my brother on random words and my brother spitting back rapid responses. Little did I know what this study session would soon lead to...
"Kattirikkay kulampu?" my mom asked.
My brother thought for a while before finally giving up.
"I don't know, what does it mean?"
"Eggplant curry."
A moment of silence enveloped the entire house. Finally, my brother opened his mouth once again, but instead of words of understanding or learning, laughter immediately poured out.
He was absolutely hysterical.
"There's such thing as eggplant curry? That's hilarious!!"
Personally, I can't for the life of me figure out what's so funny about eggplant curry. Did Nitin ever laugh at chicken curry? Nope. Did he ever laugh at lamb curry? I don't think he ever did, even though he's never tasted lamb before. But there was just something different about eggplant curry. I thought that maybe he found it to be funny because of the eggplant emoji, but then I remembered that my brother is the most oblivious ten-year old on the planet, and he probably doesn't even know that an eggplant emoji exists.
I was subjected to uncontrollable laughter all day long, and after five hours, I had had enough. It was time to get the secret out of him. What could possibly be so funny about eggplant curry?
"Hey Nity, what's so funny about eggplant curry?"
He paused for a moment before bursting into laughter once again.
"Because it's eggplant curry!"
So there you have it folks. The explanation we've all been waiting for. Eggplant curry is funny because it's eggplant curry.
